iWeld at ASNT Research Symposium in Pittsburgh

iWeld featured at the annual ASNT Research Symposium in Pittsburgh, PA, USA, between the 24th and 28th of June 2024. Lucas Queiroz Machado from the University of Southampton presented a paper on the framework for determining complex elastic tensor for heterogeneous materials with elongated grains. This is a homogenisation procedure that captures the attenuation of ultrasound propagating across columnar grains. The resulting homogenised complex tensor can be used in fast ray-based simulation to establish measured signal loss in a weld. These results were developed as a part of Work Package 2 of the iWeld project.
